Sven Holfelder has been appointed as Sales and Marketing Executive of Reutech Radar Systems (RRS). He will lead the business development team and his primary objective will be to create value with RRS’ products and competencies in the defence, parastatal and civilian markets. He will also develop a marketing strategy, establish and implement a marketing plan and build profitable customer relationships and sales processes.

Sven started his career at RRS in January 2002 with the role of finalising the proposal and then managing the GBADS programme. Before joining RRS, he was a Programme Manager at ATE.

Sven’s qualifications include a B Eng (Electronics) degree from the University of Stellenbosch and an MBL (Master of Business Leadership) from UNISA.

Batu Hijau mine enjoys uninterrupted operation 2 November 2009

Batu Hijau has selected Reutech Mining’s Movement and Surveying Radar (MSR) 300 as their primary monitoring system to provide early warning against potential slope failures.

Batu Hijau is a large open pit copper and gold Mine operated by Newmont Mining Corporation’s subsidiary, PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara. The Mine is located 1,530 kilometres (950 miles) east of Jakarta on Sumbawa Island.

The Mine and mineral processing plant at Batu Hijau operate 24 hours a day on 12-hour continuous shifts, 365 days a year. The size and shape of the Batu Hijau ore deposit makes it amenable to open pit mining, using a conventional drill, blast, load and haul mining system. Ore from the pit is crushed and conveyed to the Process Plant where a concentrate is produced, which is subsequently shipped from a purpose built port facility.

Put Spider to the test...
1 July 2009

The RSR 940 Spider, a covert air and sea surface surveillance radar, has been installed in Simonstown to undergo a product evaluation exercise.

Due to a shift to peacekeeping into the African continent, deployment in littoral waters and protection against asymmetric threats have become priorities. The Spider radar system is ideally suited for these needs.

The Spider is capable to detect and track much smaller sea and air targets than current coastal and air surveillance radars in its class. The system is a fully coherent, low cost, light-weight, LPI frequency modulated continuous wave radar. Low transmitted power levels make it ideal for covert operations.  The system is not easily detected by the conventional ESM systems.

The Spider RSR 940 can be transported on a 1 ton pickup truck; with the antenna stowed away to fit in the vehicle envelope. Various system configurations are available. These range from a highly mobile (1 ton truck) setup to permanent installations (RSR 970). The semi-permanent version is container based and can be supplied with mast heights of 5 to 15m above ground level.

MSR 200 launched in Australia... 8 August 2007

The MSR 200 was successfully launched in Perth, Australia.  RRS and Rock Engineering Services (Australia) hosted a seminar and practical demonstration of the MSR 200.

The event was well supported by the Australian mining industry and was followed by successful demonstrations at various mines.

RRS launches new MSR 200 series 19 April 2007

RRS is pleased to announce the international launch of the MSR 200. This product is an upgraded version of the MSR 100.

The release of the new product comes as the result of ongoing field trials and interactive analysis of customer needs in the mining industry.

Some of the major improvements include the following:

  • The shortcomings of using video equipment (which is not suitable for a 24 hour operation) have been overcome. This is achieved with the introduction of a fully integrated Total Station - a surveying instrument that allows for the accurate integration of slope stability and surveying information with existing mining tools.
  • The Total Station is combined with a high accuracy radar system, capable of operation in wind speeds of up to 60 km/h. The 3D radar picture is used to generate a high-resolution synthetic map - allowing user defined pixel sizes as small as 3.9m x 3.9m at a standoff distance of 900m.
  • The high-resolution synthetic map allows improved slope movement analysis and alarm functionality - all of which are incorporated in MSR 200.
