The SEAGULL RSR 960 is a ship-mounted 360 degree continuous scanning surveillance radar, The unit can also be operated in a sector scanning surveillance mode (similar to the SPIDER RSR 942). The unit is electro-mechanically stabilised using inputs from the ship’s Inertial Navigation System.

When operating in the continuous scanning mode, the radar is optimised for both surface and air surveillance. The unit is ideally suited as a gap filler which provides radar cover l in the blind arcs of the main surveillance radar. The radar may also be used as the primary surveillance sensor when existing primary radars cannot be operated due to stealth or close-coastline operational requirements. When operating in the sector-scanning mode the radar is highly effective against small moving land targets (personnel walking) and surface targets (very small boats). This mode is also ideally suited for helicopter guidance during which the systems provides heli-recognition as well as close-in tracking and guidance.

The unit has an instrumented range that is selectable up to 40 km.
